Why celebrate WorldPride Amsterdam 2026?
This year’s Amsterdam Pride is much more than the famous Canal Parade; WorldPride is coming to the city. From 25 July to 8 August 2026, Amsterdam will host more than 300 events celebrating LGBTQIA+ culture, music, creativity and community, making it one of the biggest Pride celebrations in the world. This special edition is even more significant as it marks 25 years of marriage equality in the Netherlands, the first country to legalise same-sex marriage.
The theme for this edition of WorldPride is UNITY, bringing together visitors from across the world to celebrate freedom, diversity and tolerance. Whether you're here for international concerts, legendary club nights, cultural performances or the iconic Canal Parade, Amsterdam offers something for every kind of Pride traveller.
Some of its main events include Milkshake Festival, World Pride Music Festival, Summer of Love Festival, and internationally renowned parties like FunHouse, Horse Meat Disco and Xlsior Mykonos.
Tips for planning your trip
Before diving into the events, it's worth planning ahead. Amsterdam welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors during Pride, and the city's most popular venues, hotels and parties often sell out well in advance.
Book accommodation early
Hotels across Amsterdam fill up quickly during summer and Pride, especially around the city centre, De Pijp, and the Jordaan.
Get your event tickets in advance
While many WorldPride activities are free to attend, concerts, festivals and club nights usually sell out long before the event date.
Contact organisers if you're unsure
If you have questions about accessibility, entry requirements or last-minute schedule changes, contact the event organiser or venue directly before your visit for the latest information.

What makes WorldPride Amsterdam 2026 so special?
WorldPride Amsterdam 2026 isn't just another Pride festival. For the first time, Amsterdam will host both WorldPride and EuroPride in the same year, bringing together visitors from across the globe for more than two weeks of celebrations, cultural events and community initiatives. It's a milestone edition that marks 25 years of marriage equality in the Netherlands, the first country in the world to legalise same-sex marriage on 1 April 2001.
The inaugural event featured 45 boats and drew around 20,000 spectators, and it has since grown into a major international celebration.
But that's only part of the story.
Amsterdam has long been recognised as one of Europe's most LGBTQIA+-friendly cities, with its first pride having been organised in 1996. Home to around 180 nationalities, the city has built an international reputation for diversity, freedom and tolerance, making it the perfect host for an event centred around the 2026 theme, UNITY. By 2019, Amsterdam Pride was added to the Inventory of Intangible Heritage in the Netherlands. The official visual identity even features a colourful kaleidoscope, creating an image of colour, movement and connection that puts all forms of love in the spotlight and representing the many communities, cultures, sexual orientations and identities that come together during WorldPride.
Don’t miss the Canal Parade, boat parade & other main events:
The celebrations begin with the Pride Walk on 25 July 2026, which kicks off the festivities with a powerful focus on LGBTQ+ visibility, solidarity and advocacy. As a world-renowned annual LGBTQ+ celebration, Amsterdam Pride provides a safe space for the queer community to be seen, celebrated and heard, while also serving as a platform for political advocacy and the ongoing fight for equal rights.
One of the biggest highlights is the world-famous Canal Parade on Saturday 1 August 2026, when the boat parade runs from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM and 80 decorated boats sail through Amsterdam’s UNESCO-listed canals. As Amsterdam Pride is known as the only Pride festival celebrated on the water, the Canal Parade remains one of the most iconic moments of WorldPride Amsterdam 2026.
The parade has evolved to include diverse community and corporate groups, with the first Jewish boat and Moroccan boat joining in 2014. It also continues to highlight the need for equality and address concerns about violence against LGBTQ+ people. Later in the week, WorldPride Village will open at Museumplein from 4–8 August 2026, offering free performances, food, exhibitions and cultural activities so everyone can participate. Key Museumplein events include the UNITY Concert on Tuesday 4 August 2026, the Wedding Party XXL on Thursday 6 August 2026 and the Closing Concert on Saturday 8 August 2026, bringing the celebrations to a powerful finale. The first WorldPride was held in Rome in 2000, with later editions hosted in cities such as New York, Sydney, Copenhagen, London and Madrid.
